Frequently Asked Questions – F.A.Q

Q. What is the process to join AMCS?

A. Once you have decided to join, there is an audition process where you perform a song of your choice in front of a small panel made up of our production team and committee members. This is used to gauge level of ability, vocal range and what vocal group you should be a part of.

Q. How should I pay my membership fee?

A. For Non-acting Members and Patrons payment is usually accepted via BACS on the 1st of January. Acting Members can pay weekly, monthly, bi-annually or annually as they please. This comes out to around £3.80 per week, £16.50 per month, £99 per show or £198 for the calendar year.

Q. How are rehearsals run?

A. Rehearsals are often split in-between Singing and Dancing. There is a refreshment break in-between of around 20 minutes. For Singing, some music may need to be printed and for Dancing, suitable footwear will be required along with tap shoes if necessary.

Q. Who consists of the Production Team?

A. The production team is made up of the show Director, our Musical Director and our Choreographer. In some instances these roles may overlap as our MD or Choreographer often direct shows with AMCS.

Q. When are Shows held and how often?

A. We usually perform 2 shows a year. One in May and one in November.

Q. Is there an audition process or are parts automatically cast?

A. All parts and songs are auditioned infront of a panel. Provisions are also put in place to prevent conflicts of interest.

Q. When do auditions take place?

A. Auditions are usually held a couple of weeks after the launch night of the show. The panel consists of the production team plus two external persons.

Q. Do I have to pay for costumes?

A. Usually we try to let people costume themselves to a set requirement, however some fees may apply if costumes need to be hired.
